Purpose and Background
The purpose of this blog is to chronicle and document my journey into DevOps and share the things I learn along the way.
I am a Linux Systems Engineer with over 7 years of experience in the technology industry and up until last year, I had almost no experience with the core ideas around DevOps. Things like Containers, Kubernetes, Ansible, and Terraform were entirely new to me. I also realized that my Python skills were so rusty that I needed to go back to the basics!
My DevOps Path
I knew that I needed structure and a path to build a solid DevOps foundation and I did a lot of google searching and youtube video watching.
But then I found The DevOps Roadmap
The author gives a great visual representation of how someone with almost no experience can become a DevOps Engineer and I have begun to use this to guide me in the right direction.
Goals and Objectives
- Have a working knowledge of a programming language - I chose Python
- Advance my Linux knowledge to the next level - I will be starting to study for the RHCSA
- Broaden my Ansible and Terraform knowledge
- Learn to work with containers - Docker, Podman
- Kubernetes management - OpenShift
- Use logging and monitoring tools - Graylog, Zabbix
Final Remarks for this Post
This seems like a lot and I definitely have my work cut out for me but this is the first step and that is always the hardest in my experience.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and be on the lookout for my next post!
